Whirlpool AP25030K Whispure Air Purifier, HEPA Air Cleaner

This AP250 is well put together, efficient, and ideal for a 320 sq foot or smaller room. It has very simple controls, 3 speeds and off, and it arrived ready to go -- no need to do any set up, just plug it in and enjoy. Best of all, it's extremely quiet. On low, it's barely audible, on medium, it has a pleasant low pitched hum that serves nicely as white noise, and even on high, the fan is considerably louder, but not annoying or shrill. I've tried much smaller units that were so loud it was impossible to sleep, watch tv, etc, while they were on... so this one is a keeper. The fan is powerful and it blows air straight up to circulate (supposedly it will clean the room air about 5x an hour). The back of the unit is flat, so it can be put flush against the wall. I'm trying to find out if it's ok to run it in a horizontal position with the air blowing out vs up, but until I confirm that, I'm leaving it on the floor. Initially, I was fairly pleased with this unit. Out of the box, I noticed that a large portion of the interior was made out of styrofoam, and stamped with the words "Do not remove" or something similar (I imagine to stop people mistaking it for part of the packing materials). That worried me a bit, but I went ahead and hooked it up anyway. Even on low, this was noisier than I imagined it would be, but I managed to sleep ok with it on the low setting. On high, it could be heard in the next room over, with the door closed and the television on. Positioned next to my bed, it greatly helpd with my allergies, and I was waking up with little to no sinus congestion for the first time in a while.

However, after approximately a week of use, the unit began to smell strongly of burnt plastic. As I am not the only person who has had this experience, I believe there is some design flaw with this product, possibly related to the large amount of stryfoam used in its construction...Read more

This is a good product. I definitely notice a difference with the dust and dog hair in my house. The air seems fresher. The first two speeds are fairly quiet. The last speed is loud. I would recommend.
