Surround Air Ionizer XJ-2000 Ionic Air Purifier

I bought the XJ-2000 because I have moderately bad allergies. I live in grass pollen country, and this year was particularly bad. I bought the XJ-2000 hoping that it would provide me some relief, and I must say that it has done that. Pollen counts are lower, but still high, and I haven't had any problems sleeping due to wheezing and other upper respiratory problems. I do keep it on the low setting since the high setting produces more of a swimming pool smell. My one gripe is that after about 2 weeks, the units became noticably louder. It was whisper quite at first, and now it makes a sort of white noise hiss. It doesn't interupt my sleep, but it is noticable. Where I live it is very quiet though, outside night time noise level is about 30 dBA. So the hiss that the units makes may not be noticable to someone who lives in a louder acoustic environment. I haven't tried the ionic breeze, but for a old cheepo like me the XJ-2000 does just fine.

This purifier worked well for about a week. After that, it's ability to clean the air deteriorated. Cleaning the unit per the instructions did not remedy the situation. The odor put off by the device changed as well. It almost smelled like a slight burning aroma. We live next to a rock quarry and need something that is efficient and reliable. This purifier is neither. All in all, not a good choice even for a small room.

I have had the Air Sorround XJ-2000 for over 5 YEARS and I wouldn't be without it. I have it in the bedroom and it does a very good job. As I am a careful owner and clean the unit every 15 days, it never makes a noise. It still is as silent as it was when I bought it 5 years ago, needs no filters and provides a certain amount of ozone, which is one of the things I most like about it. If this item was still available, I would buy two or three more.
