UPDATE
The unit is no longer working properly after 6 months of use. The fans are functioning but the electrostatic precipitator is no longer working (it no longer traps dust).
I have downgraded my review from 5 to 2 stars as a result.
The technology is superior, so I recommend to find an alternative brand perhaps Honeywell.


THIS UNIT IS INCREDIBLE, we have now had it running for 4 weeks and the dust load throughout the house is down dramatically. Before we installed the unit I had trouble sleeping because I was unable to breathe through my nose which was causing me to snore and puff which was driving my wife crazy. I can now sleep through the entire night, wake up rested and still be breathing through my nose when I wake up.
... and amazingly my wife is still laying next to me, she has not disappeared to our guestroom.

How can I tell that the dust load is reduced?

I'm amazed at the amount of dust these things get out of the air. You can get cheaper air cleaners and they probably work too, but these are so easy to wash, in the dishwasher. You just pull the thing out, put it in the dishwasher, and put it back when it's clean and dry. You may have to air it out before putting it in if your dishwasher, like mine, doesn't get it dry.

They are expensive. For my purposes, really bad allergies, it's worth it.

NOTE: My allergy doctor uses and recommends the Hunter brand sold by Sam's. I have 2 of those also. It's supposed to also be good and they told me it isn't necessary to buy the expensive ones. However, it's not quite as handy for me. I think you will do fine with either product.

We have one of these that broke within months. The filter is made of parallel metal fins that bend and break easily when cleaned, despite them being "dishwasher safe." No replacement filter is sold for this model. A new low for Brookstone, congratulations
