If you are planning on using this for a medium sized room where you can put it off somewhere out of the way you will be fine. I have mine next to my TV about 7-9 ft away from our couch and table. At this distance it reaches the "pleasant white noise" level. if you want it right next to your head though, this is not the one for you. other than that, it seems to work just fine. Doesn't smell like cat in my apartment anymore.

I bought this just a few days ago - I like the "white noise" idea and need it where I live, but unless set on lowest setting it's way too noisy for me. It's going back to the store. Surely there's something that does the job with less noise.

I've had this running in my office almost continuously for the past 2.5 months. I plan to toss it after today.
There was minimal noise for the first week. You would not know it was in the room. After that, the noise grew to the point that I had to turn it off every time the phone rang or someone wanted to talk to me in my office.
