The issue of the rattling fan is true (I have proven to myself that it is the fan - my first guess is the use of sleeve instead of ball bearings, and the fan may be a bit underpowered to draw the air through the HEPA filters). Right out of the box it didn't have the rattling sound, but after just about 10 hours of running, there it was. Because of this, I would agree that putting it right in a bedroom would not be the thing to do. I don't have it right in the bedroom, and I do have a white noise generator on the headboard, so I don't notice that little rattling noise at night; and during the day it makes no difference to me anyway since I can't really hear it unless I am within about 10 feet of the unit. I like the ability to turn the ionizer on and off. I use the medium speed setting of the fan, as the high setting does result in noticeably higher fan noise (the rattling seems to stay at about the...Read more 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Holmes HAP1200-U LifeLong HEPA-Type Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen) I bought this as a fan for when I sleep. I wanted a product with HEPA filter, and this model was very attractive because its filters never need replacing. Overall it seems like a good product. The design is very attractive and Holmes has been in business for a while, so they are a reputable company. The first noticeable problem is the fan noise. There are 4 speed settings -- Off, high, medium, and low. The lowest is nice and very quite. However, medium is very loud. It's like there should be 1 or 2 speeds in between low and medium, but there aren't. I don't even use the highest speed because it is just way too loud for sleeping. I can still sleep with the low and medium speeds, though. This review is from: Holmes HAP1200-U LifeLong HEPA-Type Tower Air Purifier (Kitchen) I've worked with this product in one of my work environments and I love it. Though I can't tell you I can see the difference in the air, I notice my allergies are not acting up anymore in this work environment. I'd say the product is doing what it was designed to do and for what it's worth I'd say it is a great investment. |
