With the power to humidify an entire 1,700-square-foot house, this model's bulk is quite economical. Plus, a special air-flow system lets you stow it out of the way in a corner or against a wall. Using an evaporative system and unheated, natural, evaporated water, this humidifier requires less energy than warm mist or steam units. You also won't have to deal with white dust, spray, or mist on furniture or floors. Other benefits of the evaporative system include: relief from symptoms of dry skin, itchy eyes, chapped lips, and scratchy throat; it prevents plants and furniture from becoming overly dry; reduced static electricity protects computers and electronics. Its water reservoir holds and disperses up to 8 gallons of water per day into the air, and refills easily and neatly via a removable grill on the unit's top. A digital humidistat makes it easy to set a preferred humidity. The humidistat also automatically turns itself on and off to maintain the set humidity level, displaying both current and desired humidity levels, at all times, on the LCD. In addition, the humidifier's fan offers two settings--low and high--and has power and water refill indicator lights. Measuring 18 by 12-1/2 by 21 inches, this model even has casters on its base, so it easily rolls from room to room. Bemis covers this unit under a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Summary: Not bad 2010-06-21
Comment: This unit had very good reviews and following those I purchased the it. It works very well and the only problem I had was with the floating wick. This shuts the console off when the water reaches a low limit not to burn the motor out. Well, not being an expert on these, the plastic wick had a gradual bend and I had to heat and bend it straight. I had to contact customer service and they were very helpful and sent me pics to see how the wick system was supposed to look. On that I am happy with the performance of the system and recommend it. Its quite and dont need to fill so often. The anti-bacterial treatment is not needed and good old scrubbing will clean this well.

Summary: Good theory, poor design 2010-03-13
Comment: I've had this humidifier for about two months now, and I'm disappointed.
First off, the device to shut the unit off when it's empty is very, very poorly designed--that is to say, it doesn't work. I've tried any number of different ways to put the lid on to get this thing in place. The only way I've found to get the machine to turn back on after taking the lid off is to give it a good, solid "techical tap" to jiggle the auto shutoff lever.
The good news is that you can refill the humidifier without taking the lid off. The bad news is that if you don't refill it in time, the only way to reset or override the auto shutoff is--you guessed it--a good, solid thwack.
Given the number of times I've had to hit this machine, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that my motor now makes a very distinct putt-putt sound.
Other assorted complaints I have with this humidifier:
-The high setting sounds like a hurricane or a jet engine. Overkill much?
-The filters seem to only last for a month or so.
That said, I really like that I can just roll the thing over to my sink and fill it with a hose. This is by far the easiest humidifier I've had to refill. I just wish I didn't have to abuse it to make it turn on.

Summary: Simple to use & fill 2010-02-27
Comment: I didn't realize how much I liked this humidifier until I bought a different one! I bought one of thes a year ago and chose it because of the price and the large capacity (6 gallons) and what appeared to be a simple filling method. It was easy to fill, and the digital display and controls are simple. It is supposed to cover 1700 square feet but I eventually decided I would like to have a second humidifier to keep the humidity higher and refill less frequently. I decided to add the Essick Air H12-400 3-speed humidifier as my second one. It was a nightmare to fill! I'll save the details for my review of that model. I packed it up & sent it back the next day and ordered another Essick 821000. I use 2 2-gallon buckets to fill this unit & it is very simple and quick. No bottles or hoses to worry about. Since I have 2 I don't have to refill as often. The high setting is a little loud but I only us it at night or when I'm not home to get the humidity up quickly. I always us a bacterial water treatment for humidifiers so I never have mold or odors. This unit is also narrow so it fits between pieces of furniture or in an inconspicuous place in the room. I recommend it over any model with bottles and hoses!

Summary: Very Good large humidifier 2009-12-08
Comment: I've been using a large whole house or console humidifier for about 5 years. This is by far the easiest to refill out of any I have owned.
Pros-
Very Easy to refill - No screw caps or tanks to carry.
Quiet in low mode
Large water reserve
Cons-
Lid is hard to get on right. Takes some time and patience, but you don't have to take it off to refill the unit.
It is loud on the high setting.

Summary: Rattling sound is unbearable 2008-04-29
Comment: This humidifier is convenient to refill, easy to use. The problem is that the fan/motor rattles most of the time, and the noise is unbearable. The rattle persists on both low and high speeds. When the rattling stops, the sound is very tolerable, but the quiet does not last. Moving the unit from tile to linoleum made no difference. The Sears models are much quieter.
Another problem is that the filter was in place rather than in a sterile package, so it was dirty on arrival.
