This filter is has silver in it to kill more germs. I notice that the air is cleaner when it is in use and my allergies bother me much less. The Alen T100 that I have is perfect for a small room. It is relatively quiet (which my wife loves since she is a light sleeper) and has been very reliable.
Yes, it costs less to buy the filter without the silver, and that is fine if you are only worried about dust and pollen, but especially when it is cold season why not spend a little bit extra to kill more germs too?
Can't live without 'em,

Allergy is my middle name. These newer versions of the Alen filters with the silver are great. I keep Alen HEPA's in 2 rooms, and on low all the time. My nose tells me almost at the same time as the indicators when they need to be replaced. One of my older T300's had an ultraviolet light to do what the silver is supposed to do. Fortunately they came out with this version, because the UV light lasted only a year, and was VERY expensive and not easy to replace. Good product.

Even tho the Alen air-purifiers are highly rated, unfortunately this is the old "get 'em to try the razor, then rip 'em off for the blades" kind of deal. $60 for 2 (mandatory to change both) little filters - made in China, of course, for probably pennies. I wouldn't have felt so raped if they had been made in the US at least. I may try the generic brand sold on eBay next time.
